How to fit an ankle support
The ankle support is a thin knitted sleeve with a strap that crosses in a figure of eight, so you decide how secure it feels. It's cut to fit inside a trainer or football boot. This guide covers sizing, the strap and lacing up over it.
Before you start
- What you need: A tape measure. Measure around the ankle, over the ankle bones.
- Clean, dry skin — no lotion or sweat, so the grip band and straps hold.
- Have the product page's size ranges to hand if you're choosing a size.

Steps
Measure over the ankle bones
Sit with the foot flat and measure around the ankle across the bony points. S 19–22 cm, M 22–25 cm, L 25–28 cm, XL 28–31 cm.
SizingPull the sleeve on
Open the strap fully. Point the toes and pull the sleeve on like a sock until the heel sits in the heel opening.
Fit: noneFirst pass of the strap
Take the strap under the arch of the foot and across the front of the ankle.
Fit: light to snugSecond pass and fasten
Continue round the back of the ankle, across the front again in the opposite direction and fasten the hook-and-loop on the outside of the ankle.
Fit: snugShoe on and check
Put your shoe on and walk. You should be able to move the foot up and down freely. Loosen the strap if your toes tingle or the shoe feels too tight.
Check
How long to wear it and how to wash it
Wear it for activity and take it off for long rests; don't sleep in it. Hand wash at 30 °C with straps fastened, rinse well and air dry away from heat. No bleach, no tumble dryer.
Good to know
Supports are for comfort and a feeling of support during activity. If you have an injury or a health concern, speak to a GP or physiotherapist before using one.
Questions about the ankle support
Will it fit in my football boots?
In most, yes. The sleeve is thin and the strap sits flat. You may need to loosen the laces a little.
Can I wear a sock over it?
Yes. Wear the support over bare skin and your sock over the top.
Left or right?
Either. Fasten the strap on the outside of whichever ankle you're wearing it on.
